This is the Detailed Design Document for version 2.0 of the Mars Climate Database (MCD) and replaces Collins and Lewis (1997b) which described version 1.0. Version 2.0 of the MCD incorporates several improvements, outlined in this document, but should appear almost identical to the user in terms of operating procedure, unless low-level use is being made of the large-scale variability model. This document reproduces and updates material from Collins and Lewis (1997b), where it is still relevant, as well as adding sections on the new features. The diagrams and data examples given have been prepared using the version 2.0 database. The MCD User Manual (Lewis and Collins, 1999a) should be consulted for more information on how to compile and use the software supplied with the database to access the data.
