Dust Scenarios used by the LMD Mars General Circulation Model
Introduction
We provide here synthetic dust scenarios, built using the multiannual climatology presented here, which are used as forcings by the LMD Mars Global Climate Model (GCM). The outputs of these GCM runs are used to generate the Mars Climate Database "climatology", "cold" and "warm" cases.
Data sets
The datasets (NetCDF files) contain daily values (over 669 sols of a Martian year) of IR (9.3 μm) absorption column dust optical depth at 610Pa, with a horizontal resolution of 5 degrees in longitude x 5 degrees in latitude.
- The "climatology" dust scenario: dust_clim.nc
built by averaging the krigged MY24-MY31 dust scenarios (excluding data from both MY25 and MY28 global dust storms).
- The "cold" dust scenario: dust_cold.nc
built by extracting the minimum (for each location and date) opacity from the M24-MY31 scenarios, then decreased by 50%.
- The "warm" dust scenario: dust_warm.nc
built by extracting the maximum (for each location and date) opacity from the M24-MY31 scenarios (but excluding data from both MY25 and MY28 global dust storms), then increased by 50%.
